Subtly altering the way you think about eco-friendly shoes. Yes, they can be sophisticated as well!

The brand NES was founded in 2004 by Andrea Szilágyi, graduated from the Studio Berçot in Paris. She considers that shoes are a unique and unavoidable way of self expression and that everyone should wear tailor made designs on their feet to be able to walk effortlessly on their path.

NES makes sophisticated hand-made shoes in a sustainable way for self-conscious women who choose accessories that boost their beauty and match their personality. NES shoes give to the women wearing them a homelike comfort when walking and working. They are a luxurious remedy for the heart and the feet in the urban jungle.

In spring 2008 Andrea felt she had to change. She needed to be more attentive to consumption and what she really cares for. Thus she found the most respectful atelier and started her series of Conscious collections. These collections were reactive to the times we live in. She gave a second life to some beautiful items that were no longer needed in their original form, meaning that she’s been transforming carefully selected vintage leather jackets and trousers into unique shoes and bags. The items of the series were not perfectly identical any more, but they had the same appearance. There was a randomness of the colors and textures specific to this production process, depending on the leather that she stumbled upon. The harmonious color combinations of each piece were preserved in the series production as well, but minor imperfections were intentional and added style.

Then she stopped the series production in summer 2010 and until April 2015 she only took bespoke orders to make shoes and bags that fit the exact needs of her clients and add no more to the overproduction. She loves getting to know new people, talking, living and working with them on their shoes to know exactly what they need. Then she draws, makes the last for the clients feet and attentively supervises the birth of each new pair of shoes.

Through her past collections she has been looking to be in tune with sustainable ideas. In spring 2015 she found new recyclable and compostable materials and a sustainability oriented factory where she knows now all 28 employees personally, and which is already part-powered by solar panels, heated by burning cherry pits and convicts take part in the sewing of uppers. This inspired her to restart the small scale series production as well, but still adjusted to the width of each clients feet.

She's using raw gum, eco-fRIendly leather with vegetal tanning, recycled fur and leather for her collections and since this summer, Andrea started to design fully vegan models as well, out of textiles, rubber sole and woden or plastic heels.
